Some people who develop mesothelioma never worked at a job where there was asbestos. What they may not realize was that they were being exposed to asbestos in their home - either from a parent, spouse or sibling who was bringing home asbestos on their work clothes (secondary exposure) - or from asbestos that was in the home or nearby. Into the late 1970's, many products used in home repair and remodeling projects, such as joint compounds and floor tiles, contained asbestos. And, well into the 1980's, anyone who changed the brakes or clutches on their own car was exposed to asbestos.
Mesothelioma is caused by inhaling or ingesting asbestos fibers. The following are just a sample list of products that contain or contained asbestos fibers. Some of the following products may not have contained asbestos at some times and certain manufacturers did not use asbestos in their products.
